Sonny Rollins is a saxophone colossus. The revered tenor saxophonist first received that appellation via the name of his
1956 album of that title.
Even then, at age 26, the title seemed fitting. He had already played and/or recorded with bebop giants Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and J.J. Johnson.
